Why the weather makes you feel unwell

Why the weather makes you feel unwell? Have you ever felt sleepy and helpless on a bad weather day or when a typhoon was approaching? Your head felt heavy and nauseous. Some people tend to get sick when the weather changes, but what on earth is happening inside our bodies when this happens?

Our health and well-being can be significantly impacted by typhoons and abrupt changes in atmospheric pressure. Variations in climate can lead to several difficulties, such as heightened vulnerability to diseases, discomfort, and anxiety. Although we cannot control the weather, there are practical strategies to lessen its negative impact on our health. We’ll examine the critical roles that massage and yoga may play in preserving well-being during such turbulent times.

Why The Weather Makes You Feel Unwell

Why does the weather make you feel unwell when the weather is bad or there is a typhoon, the air pressure changes. At that time, the sensors in the inner ear detect changes in air pressure. The vestibular nerve, which controls balance, becomes overly stimulated. This nerve, located deep inside the ear, reacts more intensely than needed.

This disrupts the balance of the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is normally fine. It has two parts: the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. When the sympathetic nervous system is dominant, symptoms like dizziness and migraines can occur. When the parasympathetic nervous system is dominant, symptoms like drowsiness and fatigue are more likely.

Some people feel unwell from the moment they wake up in the morning, while others feel unwell gradually. Some people also feel unwell when they sense that a low-pressure system is approaching.

Is There Nothing You Can Do Against Nature?

It would be fine if you could relax at home, but for modern people, there are many days when they cannot take a break due to work, housework, childcare, etc. Since you cannot control the weather or air pressure, it is too painful to just endure the difficult times.

To ease discomfort caused by changes in atmospheric pressure, it is important to pay attention to the essential aspects of living a healthy life, such as eating a well-balanced diet, getting plenty of rest, and exercising moderately.

But, even if you meet these criteria, many people are easily affected by weather and air pressure. I am one of them. So, this time I would like to introduce the massage and yoga poses that I practice when I feel unwell.

Why the weather makes you feel unwell

Massage and Yoga Poses to Combat Illness

I think ear-rotating exercises are well-known, but by doing ear-rotating exercises and yoga poses at the same time, you can improve blood circulation throughout the body, which can help relieve fatigue and nausea. Since the weather is somewhat predictable, it is recommended to do it in advance on days when you are likely to get sick. Please try it without overdoing it.

Ear Massage

How to do it

1) Grasp each ear with your index and middle fingers.

2) Rotate it inward and outward 10 times each, and if you have time, rotate it more than 10 times.

Yoga Poses

How to do it

1) Sit upright. You can do this on a mat or a chair.

2) Raise both arms and grab each elbow with your hands.

3) Inhale and move your arms behind your head, then exhale and move your arms in front of your head.

Try to keep the pull back for a longer time.

4) Repeat until your shoulders start to feel warm.

Typhoons and significant atmospheric pressure changes can undoubtedly disrupt our health and well-being. But, incorporating massage and yoga into your routine can significantly relieve discomfort. Understanding the impact of these weather events and utilizing effective techniques can enhance your resilience and maintain a sense of balance during challenging times. Remember to listen to your body, adapt practices to your needs, and seek professional guidance when necessary. With these tools at your disposal, you’ll be better equipped to navigate the storms and shifts that come your way.
